Yes, I do occasionally do weddings...

I get asked every so often if I photograph weddings. Though this is happening more and more. And less often to people ask if I photograph them, and more ‘are you available for such a such date?’

My answer is usually something like ‘yes, no, kinda…’

Confused? Yep. That’s ok.

Weddings are NOT my primary focus.

I DO NOT identify myself as a wedding photographer. I am a family photographer who occasionally does weddings.

There’s a few reasons. In the past, I have never really loved weddings. Don’t get me wrong. I love love. I love happiness and celebrations. And spending quality time with friends and family. But I haven’t always understood the desire to spend a whopping great sum of cash on a party. For one day. When the relationship lasts a whole lot longer than that. Hopefully. Parties are fun and all, but that’s a lot of cashola for one day. I used to always think that that amount of money could be better spent (in my eyes this is) on an awesome overseas holiday, or a house deposit. Rather than a dress that gets worn once.

But the older I get, I realise that honestly, who cares? It’s not my place to judge how or where people spend their money.

I have also never quite understood some of the traditions of weddings… As we no longer live in the 15th centaury and women are not items to be traded and sold between families. Some of the traditions are pretty archaic if you ask me. But again, not my day, not my say!

So 2021 has been my year of moving past these and coming to the realisation that yes, some weddings can cost huge amounts of money, and some traditions are old fashioned - generally weddings are a boot load of fun and what a way to celebrate love and friends and family and wrap it all up in one awesome bundle in one fun day.

After the year that was 2020 and of families and friends not being able to see much of each other, if at all, hell to it. Go splash some cash on a party and have a great time.

Here’s a little peek at some of my weddings from 2021…
