Snow, snow, snow... Sunrise engagement photos on Mt Hotham

And the latest in my very unpredictable blog…

It seems apt that although I took these photos last winter, I’m only (finally) getting around to blogging them now, at the start of another winter. Fingers crossed the gorgeous mountains of North East Victoria are open this winter and RONA doesn’t put a dampener on the ski season!

I’m more known for newborn and family photos, but yes, I do shoot the occasional wedding, elopement and engagement.

And if you’ve ever thought about photos at the snow, I’ll be there!

When Lauren first got in contact with me and mentioned she was keen to get their engagement photos done at the snow, I was super excited. Initially we were going to do sunset photos, but ended up planning a sunrise session instead. Because, why the hell not?!

With a 4am start leaving Albury, stopping halfway up Mt Hotham to put on snow chains in the dark, a last minute location change because of fog (and therefore no sunrise) and almost being blown off the mountain because of the stupidly strong cross winds… oh and the ‘feels like’ temperature hovering somewhere around minus 15 degrees. Did I also mention that Lauren was from Brisbane and had never seen snow before?

So yep, it was a tad epic, it was bloody FREEZING (thank god for those little pocket handwarmers) but it was an adventure and I had a blast!

I think we were finished up by about 9am, after getting back in our cars several times to defrost, we then headed down to Bright to find a coffee and croissant, then headed to a pine plantation to finish off the shoot a little bit warmer than how we started.

If you’ve got an adventurous spirit and you’re keen for family, engagement, elopement or wedding photos somewhere a bit different, I’d love to hear your plans!
